Suspended for writing novels?

Yes ladies and Gentleman. I’m NOT joking.   And I quote

“Those books are what caught the attention of police and school board officials in Dorchester County.  “The Insurrectionist” is about two school shootings set in the future, the largest in the country’s history.

Phillips said McLaw was taken in for an emergency medical evaluation. The sheriff would not disclose where McLaw is now, but he did say that he is not on the Eastern Shore. The same day that McLaw was taken in for an evaluation, police swept Mace’s Lane Middle School for bombs and guns, coming up empty.”

Okay.  Soooo…let me get this straight. The school administration finds out that our professor is also an author that publishes apparently under TWO pseudonyms on the same novels.  In these novels is a subject matter that sets “oh so tolerant liberals”  hearts to racing with shock and tongues to wagging with supposition and bullshit and imagined horrors.  The oh so tolerant administration then not ONLY suspends this teacher…but calls the COPS. Who then tear the school apart looking for hidden guns, weapons etc. Oh and also tear apart HIS home, and go through his and the schools databases looking for evidence of a massacre in the planning.  NONE of which according to the article this is from and another I found, were to be found. Gee…now there’s a stunning revelation. Nothing. Was. Found.

Here’s the blurb for the McLaw’s first novel…The Insurrectionist…
“On 18 March 2902, a massacre transpired on the campus of Ocean Park High School, claiming the lives of nine hundred forty-seven individuals–the largest school massacre in the nation’s history. And the entire country now begins to ask two daunting questions: How? and Why? After the federal government becomes involved, and after examining the bouquet of black roses that lies in front of the school’s sign, it becomes evident that the hysteria is far from over.

Eight hundred twenty-five kilometres north of Ocean Park High School, situated in the suburbs of Phantom Park, Pacifica, is Krossephire Technical Academy. Having a student population that exceeds nineteen thousand, it is the nation’s largest school. Krossephire is known as a very structured, academically superior institution with very minor problems. At least, that was before the threats began.

After Krossephire Tech begins receiving sinister threats foreshadowing the occurrence of a massacre substantially larger than that of Ocean Park, Agent Jessica Leigh Hearn and her federal investigative unit become involved and the severity of the situation only intensifies as they pursue a dangerous and intelligent killer who is as invisible as the government agency they work for.

Amid the hysteria that inescapably follows, Keith, Nick, and Mitchel–three twelfth-year students at Krossephire Tech–intervene after Mitchel overhears a confidential conversation. As the administrative effort to conceal the terrorising occurrences rapidly begins to fail, the three begin to conduct their own amateur investigation that ultimately puts them into serious conflict with the federal government, the Krossephire administration, as well as themselves. Simultaneously, Jessica and her team discover that the events of Ocean Park and Krossephire Tech are interrelated. And as they follow the trail of black roses, they learn an interesting yet appalling story–a parallel of the shooter’s identity. And as Nick, Keith, and Mitchel struggle to survive their slowly deteriorating school, this teenage executioner makes known that he is not like typical school assassins. He is not a copycat killer. He is not a psychologically unstable maniac. He is intelligent and knows how to kill silently and without detection. His victims are not selected at random. He is after someone–and he will stop at nothing until he is face-to-face with the one person to whom he owes much retribution. However, he will not distinguish between those he hunts and those who get in his way”

Sounds to me like it might be an interesting read. Or it might not. Who knows?  Your Mileage May Vary. Anyway…  so for writing and publishing a novel…this man has been  incarcerated…in a hospital one guesses, undergoing a forced psychiatric evaluation. For WRITING A BOOK!  Wow.  A person wrote a book, imagine that.   A book that made someone incapable of rational, logical thought, piss their pants in terror of the headlines when people find out the subject matter of a book written by a teacher employed be the district.  OMG he wrote a novel about a shooting at a school some Nine HUNDRED  years into the future!  So lets suspend him just DAYS before school starts, go full retard and have the police search the school for weapons because obviously if he wrote a novel about it, he MUST be planning a school massacre!  Sound the alarm! He had a thought!  We can’t have our teachers….*gasp* thinking for themselves. Let alone *ewwwww** having an imagination and writing a novel!

Sigh…people?  This intolerance of thought that doesn’t conform.  This…this fascism of zero tolerance, has gone and has BEEN going entirely too goddamn far. For entirely too goddamn long. It’s not teachers that are necessarily the problem, though the teachers unions play a part in this massive cluster fuck.  It’s the school and school district administrations that are a major part of this.  They have…created this massive bureaucracy, which is a law unto itself. A bureaucracy with only one goal. Money. Seemingly unbeholden to the citizenry ie the PARENTS, in their districts. These bureaucracies only seeming interest in your children is the money; local, state, and federal that those children represent. Time and past time to cut these bureaucracies down to size. To take them back from the wanna be fascists that would turn your children into the same unthinking, unquestioning, hysterical fools that they are.

As for McLaw…Hopefully they have already let the poor man go. Alas in his case, the damage has been done. He’s suspended and barred from any district campus or building. The hysterical fools aren’t likely to hire him back now, not unless he files a wrongful imprisonment claim against the local cops and libel/slander and discrimination suit against the district.   Even if they don’t hire Mr McLaw back, and even  if he doesn’t file suit?  I wonder what this dishonesty, this hysterical  and willful stupidity will do to Mr McLaw’s ability to get hired on as a teacher elsewhere.  I don’t know. I hope nothing will impede Mr McLaw’s ability to get hired on elsewhere.  I’m a cynical and pessimistic soul by nature though so I have my doubts.

At any rate, I will end this missive with the link to the article; followed by the amazon links to Mr McLaw’s novels.  As for me? As soon as I’ve got a little spare fundage cracked free, I’m going to at the very least buy The Insurrectionist to support him, and I dislike , by and large, dystopian future novels.   One final notation. Orwell and Bradbury are rolling over in their graves right now I swear.  The books those men wrote [and you know which titles I would name] were supposed to be WARNINGS against doing this kind of crap..NOT instruction manuals!
